Monmouth Launches $175 Million Campaign

M

onmouth University has always evolved to meet the needs of its students and community. From its beginnings as a junior college to its current standing as a nationally recognized university, Monmouth has remained committed to academic excellence and access. Now, in an era of rising financial aid demands and increasing competition, the University is making its boldest move yet to secure its future and transform the lives of generations of students.

Excellence. Access. Ambition., Monmouth’s $175 million comprehensive campaign, represents a transformational investment in student opportunity, academic innovation, and institutional sustainability. Publicly launched in December 2024, it is the largest fundraising effort in the University’s history. With more than $140 million raised during the campaign’s quiet phase, this initiative is already accelerating Monmouth’s progress—strengthening its ability to provide a high-quality, accessible education while ensuring long-term institutional success.

Advancing Monmouth’s Future

The landscape of higher education is shifting rapidly, requiring institutions to take decisive action to remain competitive. Excellence. Access. Ambition. ensures that Monmouth will not only keep pace with these changes but will lead the way—delivering an education that is rigorous, accessible, and deeply connected to real-world opportunities.

At its core, this campaign is about creating life-changing opportunities for students. By investing in top-tier faculty, expanding hands-on learning experiences, and fostering an environment in which ambition thrives, Monmouth is reinforcing its commitment to student success. These strategic investments ensure the University remains at the forefront of academic excellence and educational access, demonstrating that a private university education can be both attainable and transformative.

The campaign focuses on three key priorities:

1. Enhancing Campus Facilities

Major capital investments include the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music, a world-class hub for research and cultural engagement, and the Student Wellness Center, a 23,000-square-foot expansion designed to support student health and well-being. The Campus Gateway Project will create new pedestrian pathways and student gathering spaces, further enriching the Monmouth experience.

2. Endowing Academic Excellence and Student Access

Strengthening the University’s endowment is key to sustaining long-term growth. A historic $21 million anonymous gift has already expanded scholarship support, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent talented students from attending Monmouth. Faculty development and academic program innovation remain priorities, allowing the University to attract top educators and maintain cutting-edge curricula.

3. Enriching Learning Opportunities through Annual Fund Support

The campaign enhances student life and career preparation through hands-on learning experiences, internships, and new career development programs. Increased resources for annual giving ensure that Monmouth remains agile, responding to the evolving needs of its students and the workforce.

A University That Changes Lives

The impact of Excellence. Access. Ambition. is most evident in the lives of Monmouth students who benefit from the opportunities it creates.

Kylensky Miracle, a sophomore studying economics, finance, and musical theater, grew up in a three-bedroom apartment with 14 family members. Determined to succeed, he credits donor-funded scholarships for opening doors he once thought were closed to him.

Emily Singer, a junior from New Zealand, traveled 9,000 miles to attend Monmouth and says that scholarship support made her education and Division I athletics experience possible. “Thanks to Monmouth, I am living a life-changing experience,” she said.

Their stories illustrate the power of this campaign in action—ensuring that students, regardless of their backgrounds, can pursue their academic and professional aspirations.

Our bold aspirations for this campaign will ensure that a Monmouth education remains within reach for deserving students regardless of their means and will advance our goal to make Monmouth a national leader in integrating excellence and access.
—President Patrick F. Leahy

A Bold Vision for the Future

President Patrick F. Leahy describes Excellence. Access. Ambition. as a campaign that will define Monmouth’s trajectory for years to come: “Our bold aspirations for this campaign will ensure that a Monmouth education remains within reach for deserving students regardless of their means and will advance our goal to make Monmouth a national leader in integrating excellence and access.”

Campaign co-chair Henry D. Mercer, III ’87, ’17HN echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the transformative potential of this effort: “With your help, we can raise Monmouth’s stature and clout to the level we aspire to—and, most critically, nurture future generations of Hawks.”

Monmouth’s legacy has always been one of ambition meeting opportunity. Excellence. Access. Ambition. is more than a fundraising initiative—it is a bold investment in the University’s future. As the campaign progresses, its impact will continue to shape Monmouth’s evolution, ensuring that it remains a leader in providing a dynamic, accessible, and high-quality education for generations to come.
